About the job

Stash & Go Moving helps families and businesses throughout Northeast Alabama have a safer, more organized, and less stressful moving experience. Customers trust us inside their homes and around their most important belongings, so we are looking for dependable, hardworking people who take that responsibility seriously.

Moving experience is not required. We provide paid training on furniture protection, safe lifting, loading, customer service, and our moving procedures.

Pay and schedule

  • Movers earn $15 per hour plus customer tips.
  • Employees earn $16.50 per hour for the entire shift when scheduled as the assigned driver.
  • An approved driver working as a regular mover while someone else is assigned to drive earns the $15 mover rate.
  • Required training is paid. Customer tips are additional and are not guaranteed.
  • This is a part-time position with variable hours based on booked moving jobs. Full-time hours are not guaranteed.
  • Most jobs begin early in the morning. End times depend on the move, and some shifts may last 10–12 hours or longer.
  • Employees must maintain consistent availability. Strong attendance, broader availability, and dependable performance receive priority when jobs are scheduled.
  • Raises and advancement are available based on attendance, reliability, skill development, performance, and additional responsibilities.

Mover responsibilities

Every employee, including assigned drivers, performs regular mover duties. This is not a driving-only position.

  • Wrap and protect furniture and customer belongings.
  • Load and unload moving trucks.
  • Carry furniture, boxes, appliances, and moving equipment.
  • Protect floors, walls, doors, railings, and other areas of customer property.
  • Safely use dollies, straps, moving pads, stretch wrap, and other equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble basic furniture after training.
  • Follow instructions from the crew lead.
  • Work safely while maintaining a productive pace.
  • Communicate respectfully with customers and coworkers.
  • Keep trucks, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Remain with the crew until the assigned move is complete.

Assigned driver responsibilities

Employees approved as company drivers may also be responsible for:

  • Safely operating moving vans, rental trucks, and box trucks.
  • Completing required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Reporting warning lights, damage, mechanical concerns, or safety issues immediately.
  • Checking vehicle height and clearance before entering low-clearance areas.
  • Safely parking, backing, and maneuvering in driveways, neighborhoods, storage facilities, and commercial locations.
  • Using a spotter when required.
  • Following company procedures for fueling, keys, tolls, accidents, cleanliness, and vehicle documentation.
  • Confirming that the load is properly secured before transportation.
  • Following all traffic laws and company safety policies.
  • Representing Stash & Go professionally while operating a company or rental vehicle.

Basic requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have dependable transportation to our Gadsden location.
  • Report to work on time for early-morning starts.
  • Be able to work occasional long shifts and perform continuous physical work.
  • Frequently lift and carry approximately 50–75 pounds and team-lift heavier items, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work in heat, cold, stairs, apartments, homes, storage units, and commercial buildings.
  • Communicate respectfully and follow company safety and furniture-protection procedures.
  • Receive correction without becoming defensive.
  • Take responsibility for mistakes and report damage or safety concerns honestly.
  • Complete applicable pre-employment screening.

Driver approval requirements

To be approved as a company driver, an employee must:

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Have an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Meet company insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Complete company driver and vehicle-safety training.
  • Pass a company road test.
  • Demonstrate safe judgment while parking, backing, turning, and operating larger vehicles.
  • Meet any additional legal requirements for the vehicle or assignment.

Applicants may still be considered for the mover position if they do not qualify to drive.

This may be a good fit if you:

  • Take pride in careful, dependable work.
  • Show up when scheduled and communicate early when a genuine problem occurs.
  • Want to learn without needing previous moving experience.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Treat customers, coworkers, homes, and belongings with respect.
  • Can work carefully without moving unnecessarily slowly.
  • Are willing to help with every part of the job.

This is not a fit if you:

  • Need guaranteed 40-hour workweeks.
  • Change your availability frequently or regularly arrive late.
  • Only want to drive and do not want to move furniture.
  • Cannot work early mornings, occasional long days, or remain until the move is complete.
  • Do not want physically demanding work.
  • Are unwilling to receive instruction or redo work when necessary.

Hiring process

Qualified applicants may be invited to complete:

  1. A short phone screening.
  2. An in-person interview.
  3. Applicable pre-employment screening.
  4. Paid training and an initial performance evaluation.

Driver candidates must also complete a driving-record review, insurance eligibility review, driver training, and a company road test before being assigned to drive.

A polished résumé is not required. We care more about reliability, attitude, judgment, communication, work ethic, and willingness to learn.
